What to expect

Three hours on the family boat Captain Tasos, out of Kos harbour. The first twenty to thirty minutes are under way, past the old harbour and the castle, with the Turkish coast on the horizon. Then the boat stops and the rods come out: the crew shows you what to do, whether or not you have fished before, and you fish for a couple of hours at anchor close to the shore. On the way back your catch is cleaned, gutted and bagged, and Noah's Ark, a few minutes' walk from the harbour, cooks it for you at no charge – you pay only for what you order with it. What bites depends on the day: comber, painted comber, white seabream and saddled seabream are among the usual catch, and nothing is guaranteed. The family has fished this water since 1939, and Alex, Captain Tasos's son, has taken visitors out since 2015.
